This was the founding objective of the ILA. We changed our name to LI (in 1977). Then we gained a Royal Charter (in 1997). Then we became a registered charity (in 1999). The changes were made for good reasons. But charitable status led to corporatisation. Our original objective retains its importance and we can support it by (1) friendly intercourse between members and others (2) discussing examples of good and bad landscape architecture (+ landscape management, landscape planning, garden design, GLVIA etc) (3) scrutiny of our professional institute (4) reflections on the history and theory of the discipline (5) celebrating the lives and work of notable practitioners. (6) What else?
